Stop pitting Anwar against Mahathir, Shamsul warns PKR

PKR AGM | Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin has called for an end to alleged attempts to create a wedge between incoming PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"I urge all of you, enough. Let us not tell tales, pit these two great leaders against each other, Mahathir and Anwar," the outgoing PKR vice-president said in his speech at the 13th PKR national congress in Shah Alam today.
The Hang Tuah Jaya MP also urged members to remember the Malay tale of Si Kitol, whose actions led to the Malacca sultanate's downfall at the hands of Portuguese invaders.
Despite the sultanate being equipped with better vessels and weapons against Portuguese troops led by Alfonso de Albuquerque, Shamsul Iskandar pointed out how Si Kitol's actions eventually led to the enemy's victory.
"There cannot be a modern-day Si Kitol in PKR and Harapan. The current prime minister is Dr Mahathir and Insya Allah after this it is Anwar."
Similarly, Shamsul also congratulated Mohamed Azmin Ali for defending his deputy president's post, and called on members to unite under his and Anwar's leadership.
"The duo of Anwar and Azmin, don't spite them, they have already had a good relationship for 30 years," he said.
Since officially returning to parliament as Port Dickson MP, Anwar had repeatedly said that he was in no rush to succeed Mahathir as the eighth prime minister.
He had similarly called to an end to alleged attempts to drive a wedge between them. - Mkini
