CJ files affidavit-in-reply to Sangeet’s judicial interference suit

Federal prosecutors today filed an affidavit-in-reply to lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo's lawsuit in connection with the sedition case against her late father, Karpal Singh.

Sangeet had sued the chief justice earlier this month over alleged judicial interference in her father’s sedition appeal and on the conversion of M Indira Gandhi's children.
The High Court judge in Kuala Lumpur, Justice Mohd Firuz Jaffril, set Feb 25 as the date of reply to the affidavit.
Sangeet confirmed receiving the affidavit today.
She is seeking a declaration that the chief justice – not named in her originating summons – had failed to defend the integrity and credibility of the judiciary when he failed to complete investigations relating to two allegations of judicial interference.
In August last year, Sangeet had lodged a police report after lawyer Mohd Haniff Khatri Abdulla revealed that an unnamed senior judge meddled in the decision to acquit Karpal of a sedition charge.
A week prior to this, appellate court judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer revealed during a law conference that he was reprimanded by a senior judge for writing a dissenting judgment in Indira's case.
As a result of the two revelations, Chief Justice Richard Malanjum promised to look into both allegations, but he suspended the internal probe in November pending a police investigation. - Mkini
