Sabak Bernam assemblyperson Ahmad Mustain Othman has admitted that he was at a protest near the restaurant where former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak was having breakfast yesterday.
He told Malaysiakini that his car, which Najib had identified in a Facebook post, was within the vicinity because protest materials were inside.
Mustain added that he also lived very near to the restaurant.
According to Mustain, local Pakatan Harapan component party leaders had met on Saturday and decided to hold a protest.
He said he chaired the meeting and had to accede to the decision made by those present - to "melakukan sedikit provokasi tentang kehadiran Najib" (to cause a bit of provocation towards Najib's visit).
"(The protest) wasn't on my instruction. It was decided by Sabak Bernam Harapan during the meeting," he said.
He said the police had barred them from protesting until Najib had left.
"I was there to prevent any untoward incidents from happening," said Mustain, who is an Amanah member.
Last night, Najib had wrote on his Facebook page that Mustain's car was in the vicinity and sought a clarification.
Najib visited Tanjong Karang, Sabak Bernam, Sekinchan and Kuala Selangor yesterday as part of his "bossku" tour.
