Unjust! Najib fumes over tax bill

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak (above) today confirmed that he has received an unexpected tax bill and he is unhappy.
"We will see a review and specific remedy under the (due) process because the basis of calculation and definition of income is very much questionable," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
Najib said he was unable to share the specifics.
"My tax people are working on it. We think it is very unjust. We will seek the remedial (action), whatever that can be done through the process," he said.
On whether he would make good his earlier promise to produce evidence that some of his income involved a "donation", Najib affirmed so.
However, when asked twice if the tax bill amounted to RM1.5 billion, as reported by The Edge Markets yesterday, Najib did not provide an answer.
The report said the amount was for the period of 2011 to 2017, and the tax bill was sent a week ago.
Among others, the report claimed that Najib did not declare about RM4 billion during the period, including the RM2.6 billion which US investigators claim originated from 1MDB.
Following this, Najib wrote on his Facebook page that foreign income, including the purported donation from Saudi origins, was not subjected to income tax.
However, the Saudi donation theory has been debunked by the US Department of Justice and some press reports. - Mkini
