Dr M congratulates Vivian on Sandakan win

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has congratulated DAP's Vivian Wong for her win in the Sandakan parliamentary by-election Saturday (May 11).
"Congratulations Vivian. Now you are a 'Yang Berkhidmat'. Continue to serve the people and country," he said in a post on his Twitter account Sunday (May 12).
The salutation YB ("Yang Berhormat") was said to have been rebranded to "Yang Berkhidmat" after Pakatan Harapan came into power.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chief strategist Datuk Dr Rais Hussin Mohamed Arif had once asked on his Twitter account if changing the salutation would perhaps give a new sense of service to the people instead of demanding respect.

Wong won the Sandakan parliamentary by-election on Saturday with 16,012 votes against Parti Bersatu Sabah’s Datuk Linda Tsen, who garnered 4,491 votes.

The other three independents, Hamzah Abdullah, Chia Siew Ying and Sulaiman Abdul Samat obtained 788, 176, and 126 votes, respectively.
Wong retained the seat won by her father, the late Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt.- Star
