PETALING JAYA: A search is going on for passengers onboard a passenger boat that was reported to have capsized in the Bakun Dam in central Sarawak.
Firemen from Bintulu have been sent to the site.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the incident happened at a remote site called Batu Keling Ulu Bakun, in Belaga district, yesterday afternoon.
“Bintulu is about four hours by road from the entrance to the Bakun Dam.
“From the dam entrance to the site of the incident, it will take another four hours by boat,” the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said.
The search-and-rescue team left Bintulu this morning in 4-wheel drive vehicle and a boat.
There is no confirmation on the number of passengers in the boat. Like many other remote places in Sarawak, the people depend on boats to get around. - FMT
