So Does This Mean We Can Now Abolish The Sedition Act ?

Dr Mahathir regrets arrest of writer who criticised Johor Crown Prince

I was informed a social media user was arrested last night.
As I stressed before, no leader in Malaysia is free from criticism

people are free to criticise leaders
Freedom of expression is important in a democracy
Except for threats, slander and insults towards the rulers

Dr M emerged biggest critic following fallout with Johor palace
PM called crown prince “stupid”, “little boy”

Johor palace never lodged police reports on such matters.
arrested writer Firdaus Abdillah Hamzah, handle Pipiyapong.
wearing orange lock-up apparel
handcuffed behind his back.

Then just TWO hours after Dr Mahathir made that statement, Firdaus Abdillah has been released:

Firdaus Abdillah freed less than 2 hours after PM tweeted disagreement with arrest

My comments :

Then what about the other cases where people have been arrested, charged and even jailed for "insulting" the royals?  Shouldnt the same principle apply to those cases also?

Or is it a case of "Penatlah Syed, malas nak memikir lah."

Here is a short list of those cases.  Quite a few. There are more than this.

And isnt this so very arbitrary?
What if Dr Mahathir had NOT said anything about this arrest?
This boy would have been charged in court and possibly sentenced to jail as well.
This case would also have been included in that list above.

Now just because the Prime Minister disagreed with his arrest, the boy has been freed. Just like that.

Isnt this also interference with the independence of the Police, the AG, the Judiciary etc?

Can we just abolish the Sedition Act?

The TMJ has said that it was not the Palace that made any Police reports against that boy.   Meaning they do not consider the comments worthy of making a Police report.

In that case why do we still need the Sedition Act?

Now please look at these two pictures:

This is the Johor royal family.  There is enough silver, brass, braid and gold thread here to keep the butler busy for a month, just to polish all that shiny stuff. This picture is obviously a statement - it shows wealth, power, authority, very high status and position.
So the folks in the picture above need the Sedition Act  to be protected against the fellow in this picture below here :

Nauzubillah he is just a boy. Firdaus Abdillah looks like a Mat Rempit. He could use a haircut and maybe some good hot food. Look at that smile. That is a genuine smile.

Why do you insult him  by arresting him, putting him in handcuffs, wearing that orange lock up gear  AND THEN RELEASE HIM JUST LIKE THAT?

Just abolish the Sedition Act.

My friends, dearest orang Melayu,  you all really have to think a little bit.
Thinking is free. It does not take any physical effort at all.

The problem with you folks is that you just dont like to think.
Malas nak memikir.
