Sorry but I meant well, says senator over ‘anti-seduction’ law idea

Mohd Imran Abd Hamid says he is surprised by the strong reactions to his proposal. (Bernama pic)
PETALING JAYA: PKR senator Mohd Imran Abd Hamid has apologised for his proposal that a law be enacted to protect men from being seduced by women into committing sexual crimes.
Imran said he was retracting the proposal he made in the Dewan Negara yesterday.
“My intentions were sincere, so I did not think it would be seen as a big mistake that could offend women as well as men who consider it an insult,” he said in a statement.
Yesterday, Imran, during a Dewan Negara debate on the Syarie Legal Profession (Federal Territories) Bill, said Parliament should enact a sexual harassment act to protect men from the actions, words and clothing of women which could seduce them and lead them into committing crimes such as incest, rape and molest.
His remarks sparked outrage from rights activists, and also a rebuke from PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who said it was an insult to women.
“It also depicts men as immoral and easily seduced into committing heinous acts,” Anwar had said. - FMT
