Anwar is as Malay-centric as most of the 20 million other Malays in Malaysia. The only thing is Anwar can speak to both the Arabs and Jews and say the right thing to both so that both the Arabs and Jews will support him. And he does the same to the Malays and non-Malays as well. That is how Anwar survives in politics — he can pretend to be both a Malay nationalist and a multi-racial liberal-democrat at the same time.
NO HOLDS BARRD
Raja Petra Kamarudin
The non-Malays or non-Muslims do not seem to understand the Malay-Muslim mind-set. They feel it is the duty of the Malays-Muslims to “fit in” and comply with what is considered “the norm” in a multi-racial country. But this is not how the Malays-Muslims think. However, the non-Malays or non-Muslims are too degil to accept this reality.
For example, Malays believe that if a Muslim male marries a Jewish or Christian girl/woman she must first convert to Islam. That is not true but Malays believe it is. Malays also believe that Muslims should not keep or touch dogs. That is also not true but Malays believe it is as well. So I have given up trying to “educate” Malays because you can talk till the cows come home and they will never change their beliefs.
to Malaysia 500 years ago, the present generation Chinese and Indians are still pendatang.
Malays will still regard the Chinese and Indians as pendatang come hell or high water
Take my case, as one example. My ancestors came to Selangor in the 1700s while Tian Chua’s ancestors came to Melaka in the 1500s. But I am a “son of the soil” while Tian Chua is a pendatang. That may sound crazy (and even unjust) to Chinese and Indians but this is how Malays look at it. So don’t try to argue with Malays and confuse them with logic. Logic does not apply. Sentiments and emotions do.
The Malays also look at the Khat, Jawi, Malay language Bible, Shariah laws, RUU355, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese schools, Raja-Raja Melayu, Dasar Ekonomi Baru, Article 153, etc., issues using that same yardstick. All these issue are Malay-Islam issues and the “pendatang” have no right to interfere or comment on them.
What about democracy, freedom of speech, civil liberties, and so on? Do these not matter? No! When it comes to Khat, Jawi, Malay language Bible, Shariah laws, RUU355, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese schools, Raja-Raja Melayu, Dasar Ekonomi Baru, Article 153, and so on, they are above democracy, freedom of speech, civil liberties, etc.
The patience of the Malays is wearing thin with the antics of the “biadap” Chinese
Does that sound logical?
What has logic or common sense got to do with the discussion? Matters concerning beliefs, faith, sentiments, emotions, etc., defy logic and common sense. So leave logic and common sense out of the discussion. Malays are sons and daughters of the soil while Chinese and Indians are pendatang even if their ancestors came to Malaysia 1,000 years ago.
If for every debate you apply logic and common sense, then religion and the belief in God would be ridiculous. You cannot apply logic and common sense to religion. Belief in religion is based on faith, not logic and common sense.
And the same applies when Malays look at the issues regarding Khat, Jawi, Malay language Bible, Shariah laws, RUU355, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese schools, Raja-Raja Melayu, Dasar Ekonomi Baru, Article 153, etc. It is based on sentiments and emotions and the belief that Malays are the sons and daughters of the soil while the Chinese and Indians are pendatang.
Anwar can speak both Malay and Tamil at the same time
You might say only some Malays believe this and that not all Malays think like this. That is not true. People like Anwar Ibrahim might ceramah and say “anak Cina dan anak India juga anak saya”, but that is cakap politik. Privately Anwar is as “racist” as Ibrahim Ali. The only thing is Ibrahim is honest about what he thinks while Anwar main wayang to get support from the non-Malays.
