PETALING JAYA: The Finance Ministry must be transparent and explain in detail its RM30mil proposed trust fund to Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), says MCA.
“Why, for example, is the fund being channelled to the Tarcian Alumni Association (TAA), as opposed to the other registered alumni association, the Federation of TAR Student Alumni?” asked MCA spokesperson Mike Chong.
“What is TAA’s relationship with the Finance Minister until they are given priority to handle the RM30mil allocation?
“We appeal to the Finance Minister for clarification, ” he said in a statement.
Chong also criticised the condition set by the Finance Ministry which stipulated that the MCA leadership must relinquish ownership of TAR UC in order for the money from the proposed fund to be channelled to the university college.
“If Lim Guan Eng was sincere in helping TAR UC, why should such a condition be imposed?
“To date, Lim Guan Eng and his comrades have not been able to prove that MCA has ever brought any party politics into TAR UC, nor carried out any political activities at TAR UC campuses, ” he said.
He pointed out that several Pakatan Harapan leaders were TAR UC graduates themselves.
He added that many senior leaders in Pakatan, including Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub and Negri Sembilan exco Teo Kok Seon were among the many TAR UC graduates.
“If MCA had really used TAR UC to spread its political views and as a means of gaining support, would the above mentioned public figures become PH leaders?” he asked.
Yesterday, Lim, the Finance Minister, announced the approval of at least RM30mil annually to a trust fund for TAR UC and its students, provided MCA relinquishes control of the university college.
Lim said the RM30mil, which would be provided annually and disbursed by this year, would be allocated to a trust fund managed by TAA.
He said the trust fund management would comprise TAA, TAR UC student representatives and a Finance Ministry representative.
The trust fund, he said, would manage the RM30mil annual fund without the involvement or the intervention of the government or any political parties, including MCA or those from Pakatan.- Star
