Late start for single mum Faridah in Tanjung Piai

Faridah Aryani Abd Ghaffar insists she is ‘anak Johor’.
PONTIAN: Tanjung Piai independent candidate Faridah Aryani Abd Ghaffar is only starting to reach out to voters today, almost a week after nomination day.
The single mother is confident of getting enough votes in order to keep her deposit.
“I don’t want to lose my deposit,” she told FMT.
Under current laws, candidates who fail to obtain at least a third of the total votes cast would lose their deposits.
Faridah said she chose to go all out to reach out voters in the last seven days as she did not have sufficient funds.
She said her focus would be on issues of poverty and those in the B40 category.

“I have plans to improve their quality of life and income through the tourism sector if I am elected.
“My team will also start our campaign on the social media,” she said.
Faridah is one of two independent candidates – the other being Ang Chuan Lock – for the Nov 16 polls, where Barisan Nasional’s Wee Jeck Seng is trying to wrest the seat back from Pakatan Harapan.
PH is represented by PPBM’s Karmaine Sardini, who will also be challenged by Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam and Berjasa’s Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz.
Faridah said she is still a Johorean despite not being a local.

“Some people made fun of me and say I am not ‘anak Johor’. But I can say I was born in Kulai,” she added. - FMT
