Malaysian Flights Threat To Pearl Harbour.

  • only M'sian airline to US is AirAsia X

  • M'sia same category as Thai, Bangla, Ghana, Costa Rica

US FAA downgraded Msia’s air safety rating
restricting country’s airlines from adding flights to US

M'sia downgraded to Category 2

FAA’s safety rating based on country’s aviation oversight regime
an assessment of M'sia's civil aviation authority

means carriers from Msia cannot start new services
restricted to current levels of existing service to US
carriers also subject to additional inspections in US

FAA will not allow code-sharing between US and M'sia
M'sia in same category as Thailand, Bangladesh, Ghana, Costa Rica.

only M'sian airline to US is AirAsia X from KL to Honolulu

My comments :

It looks like the culprit is Air Asia X because Air Asia X operates the only flight from Malaysia to Honolulu

For once MAS escapes blame because MAS does not know where is the United States or Honolulu. Or what is Pearl Harbour.
An aviation industry friend says that the FAA 'must have done some air worthiness audit on some of Air Asia planes. The Malaysian plane must have failed the air worthiness audit so the FAA decided to downgrade our rating.  The FAA does surprise spot checks on planes flying into d USA.'

Although the USA is not exempt from suffering air crashes and other airline disasters I believe the FAA (United State's Federal Aviation Administration) has very stringent air safety regulations for airplanes flying in the US.

If they downgraded our airplanes , what about our own Malaysian CAA (Civil Aviation Authority)? Meaning if the flights are downgraded in the US obviously for safety reasons, can the same flights buzz around other destinations, including in Malaysia?

Or shall we just wait for the next attack on Kota Bharu?

If there are more spot checks by the FAA on Air Asia X flights into Honolulu it could mean delays and more costs for Air Asia.

What about reactions by other aviation authorities?   It is to be noted that out of hundreds of airlines flying into the US, they have downgraded airplanes from only FOUR countries Thailand, Bangladesh, Ghana and Costa Rica.

It looks like Malaysia is now at par with Ghana and Costa Rica as well. Where is Costa Rica?
