TANJUNG PIAI: Pakatan Harapan’s candidate in Tanjung Piai, Karmaine Sardini, sees no problem in the Election Commission’s (EC) directive that candidates apply for a police permit before they go door-to-door campaigning, after the move came under fire from Barisan Nasional leaders.
“If the Election Commission (EC) tells us to get a permit, we will get it,” Karmaine told FMT today.
He said that he was only informed about the permit yesterday, adding that this was never a requirement in the past.
EC chairman Azhar Harun today said apart from door-to-door canvassing, walkabouts are also considered a form of campaigning.
He said this followed a meeting with the Pontian police chief to clarify and coordinate issues related to permits and campaigning rules. - FMT
