Remember PKR’s written rules, says youth secretary

PETALING JAYA: PKR Youth secretary Syukri Wahab said the decision to cancel party deputy president Azmin Ali’s invitation to officiate the upcoming youth congress was made based on factors concerning Azmin himself.

“It’s not logical for a stage as big as the PKR Youth congress to be given to a leader that disrespects the leadership and organisation of the party,” he said,

Syukri’s statement came in response to Baru Bian, who said the Sarawak PKR convention to be held on Nov 23 will be postponed if the issues surrounding Azmin’s cancelled invitation are not solved immediately.

He said Baru should remember that the decision to invite Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to officiate the youth congress was reached in consensus during a youth wing meeting in Oct 20.

“I take note that some people bring up ‘tradition’ to oppose his invitation cancellation.

“They say it has been a tradition and a convention that the youth and women’s wing congress is officiated by the deputy president.

“Before speaking about tradition and convention, take a look at the written rules that a few members of PKR have clearly broken.

“Article 21.16 of the PKR constitution states that ‘any central leadership members that do not attend the central leadership meeting three times without any valid reason is considered to have resigned their post in the central leadership, and the central leadership has the right to enforce this rule’,

“The same is mentioned in Article 7.14 of the PKR Youth Council constitution 2014,” he said.

Syukri urged party members not to ride on “tradition” for politics sake.

“Democracy in PKR will thrive if all leaders and members are disciplined, attend meetings and respect the leadership,” he said. - FMT
