Sabah set to draw more medical tourists

KOTA KINABALU: A British company has shown interest to tap into Sabah’s potential as a medical tourism destination, as the state explores ways of developing the lucrative industry.

Deputy Chief Minister Christina Liew said officials from a London-based firm had met with her recently.

She said Penang and Selangor were successful in attracting medical tourists, or those who travel abroad to undergo a medical procedure.

“Sabah doesn’t just have beautiful tourism spots but also good medical facilities, including four private hospitals and experienced doctors. We also have plastic surgeons to do cosmetic surgeries,” she told the Sabah state assembly today.

Liew, who is the state minister in charge of tourism, said the Sabah Tourism Board would take part in tourism roadshows around the world including in Brunei, India and Germany. - FMT
