Umno leader accuses Hisham of rallying party MPs for Azmin, calls it a betrayal

Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam (photo, above) has accused his party's Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein of masterminding the meeting held at Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali’s official residence in Putrajaya last night.
"Hishammuddin has once again betrayed Malaysians, particularly the voters of Tanjung Piai who two (three) days ago put their faith in the BN candidate to win the seat.
"What is his excuse when he led 22 BN MPs to Azmin's house in Putrajaya?
"Even though not all 22 MPs support (Prime Minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad, would not the BN and PAS machinery, which worked hard in Tanjung Piai, be disappointed by his betrayal?" Lokman asked in a statement issued after midnight, an hour after the meeting concluded.
A handful of PKR MPs, including Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin and Deputy Transport Minister Kamarudin Jaffar, were among those spotted at Azmin’s residence last night.
They were tightlipped when asked about the meeting. Azmin (photo) and Hishammuddin have previously been implicated in trying to organise MPs to back Mahathir and block PKR president Anwar Ibrahim from succeeding him.
Azmin, who is the PKR deputy president, is in a feud with Anwar and has stopped attending party meetings.
Pressure on Mahathir has grown following Harapan's landslide defeat in the Tanjung Piai by-election last Saturday, in which some coalition leaders have blamed the prime minister.
However, Azmin has come out strongly to defend Mahathir.
Lokman, in his statement, claimed Hishammuddin had been acting as a "middleman" for Mahathir, who is the Bersatu chairperson.
"Before this, Hishammuddin (photo) acted as Mahathir's middleman to recruit Umno MPs into Bersatu, but he did not face disciplinary action.
"Every time he (Hishammuddin) was questioned on why he is inciting Umno MPs to join Bersatu, he would claim that he was actually trying to prevent them from joining Bersatu," he said.
Lokman said he had on Oct 30 lodged a disciplinary complaint against Hishammuddin.
"I call for the investigation to be expedited and disciplinary action taken against those who influence Umno MPs and leaders to support Mahathir or Azmin, which would disappoint the people's hope to see Parliament dissolved.
"Hishammuddin's action goes against the Umno supreme council decision, which has decided that it will not cooperate with any Harapan party.
"I hope no one would continue to defend Hishammuddin's betrayal. The party must take stern action," Lokman added. - Mkini
