Umno Youth: Papagomo's racial remarks in old video are his personal views

STAR
PONTIAN: Umno has distanced itself from the remarks of its Youth exco member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who called for the voting rights of Chinese and Indians to be withdrawn.
"Umno Youth stressed that the comments are the personal views of Wan Muhammad and it does not reflect the official stance of Umno Youth," said its Youth Chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (pic) in a statement on Friday (Nov 15).
Recently, an old video clip surfaced on social media featuring Wan Muhammad - better known as "Papagomo" - saying that he hopes for the unity of Muslims to succeed in order for a bumiputra-led government to be established.
Wan Muhammad also said in the video that with a two-thirds majority in Parliament, he would revoke the voting rights of Chinese and Indians.
Dr Asyraf pointed out that the video implicating Wan Muhammad was an old clip recorded before the Penyatuan Ummah and Muafakat Nasional agenda was conceived.
Dr Asyraf also stressed that Umno Youth was among the earliest groups which supported the decision of the Barisan Nasional leadership's to place an MCA candidate for the Tanjung Piai by-election in order to realise the Muafakat Nasional agenda.
"MCA and MIC were among the earliest groups that kick-started the Muafakat Nasional movement," he said.
"Umno Youth is confident that Muafakat Nasional is the key to returning Malaysia to its original structure, which is a peaceful, harmonious and progressive country with the framework of a racially and religiously diverse society based on the Federal Constitution and the spirit of the Rukunegara," he added.
The controversial 36-second clip first made its rounds last November, which triggered several police reports lodged against the blogger.
Shortly after, Wan Muhammad was arrested for allegedly spreading racial hatred- Star
