UPM prevents Hadi from appearing as talk programme guest

Abdul Hadi Awang has been allegedly prevented from appearing as a special guest in an exclusive talk programme at Universiti Putra Malaysia tomorrow, with the organiser claiming "external pressure from higher-ups”.
The PAS president shared a letter on the postponement via his Twitter account today.
The letter dated Nov 18, believed to be from the university to its Muslim Students Association president, requests the association to postpone the exclusive talk with Hadi due to "the inevitable reason."
The association is the organiser of the Karnival Inspirasi Putra which also supposedly features the exclusive talk.

The letter also states that UPM will replace the slot in an intellectual discourse session at a later date.
Commenting on the postponement, the association's president Muhammad Hakim Paimin (above) expressed his disappointment with the last-minute notification despite the programme being approved in early November by the university.
"The programme is slated to take place tomorrow but we received the postponement news this morning.
"We had booked the date for Tuan Guru (Hadi) since the previous semester several months ago and sent the official invitation letter on Nov 7.
"There shouldn't be an issue as the students’ welfare department (Hal Ehwal Pelajar) has approved (the programme)," Hakim told Malaysiakini.
He said while the prerogative to approve the programme is with the university, he took note of the tremendous pressure from the authorities which forced the university to issue the letter.
Asked if the topic of the talk programme could be the reason for preventing Hadi (above) to attend the programme, Hakim said the topic "Islam brings unity" (Islam Membawa Kesatuan) has nothing to do with it.
Instead, he said the association was asked to get a representative from the government to be part of the talk programme.
"We had a meeting with a representative from the Education Ministry and the university last Friday. They had advised us to get any government representative to be featured in the programme.
"We were in the midst of getting another guest from the government side when the postponement news arrived," Hakim said.
Malaysiakini has contacted the university and Education Minister Maszlee Malik's press-secretary for clarification on the matter. - Mkini
