All lawmakers attending the Dewan Rakyat sitting this Monday were tested negative for Covid-19 after they had undergone tests this week, says Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said 750 tests, including on MPs, Parliament staffers and the Dewan Rakyat speaker, were conducted.
"We had conducted tests on MPs.
"Yesterday was the last day (for the tests), not only for MPs but also for the (Parliament) employees.
"A total of 750 were screened and tested. The results were negative," he told the media in a press conference today.
Previously, several MPs were tested positive for Covid-19. They include Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang, Sarikei MP Andrew Wong and Bandar Kuching MP Kelvin Yii.
The one-day-only Parliament sitting will take place on May 18. It is the first Dewan Rakyat sitting since the change in the government from Pakatan Harapan to Perikatan Nasional.
The Dewan Rakyat will convene for the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong's opening speech at 10am and the sitting would end immediately after that.
Langkawi MP Dr Mahathir Mohamad's plan to table a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will not materialise following the change in the agenda.
The decision to have a one-day sitting had caused an uproar among the Opposition lawmakers who have been pushing for the Dewan Rakyat sitting to convene for more than a day.
Harapan has persistently called for the sitting to be extended with former minister Liew Vui Keong submitting an emergency motion to extend it to eight days, but PN contended that prolonging the gathering of MPs could pose a Covid-19 contagion risk. - Mkini
