Sarawak PKR seeks anti-hopping law after PSB accepts two ex-leaders

Malaysiakini

Sarawak PKR has urged the government to legislative laws to prevent lawmakers from defecting.
In a statement today, Sarawak PKR communications chief Abun Sui Anyit said a lawmaker who defects would then have his support tested through an election.
"Excuses such as leaving because of problems within a party are not acceptable. A party has rules and disgruntled members can act against the leadership.
"Those who think they have support within a party can seek positions within the leadership. They can only oust a party leader through an emergency general meeting," said Abun Sui.
Abun Sui's statement was released hours after two former top Sarawak PKR officials - Ba'kelalan and Selangau lawmaker Baru Bian and Batu Lintang lawmaker See Chee How - joined United Sarawak Party (PSB).
Baru's membership in PKR was automatically voided after he briefly joined Bersatu in late February while See's membership in PKR was suspended in April.
Abun Sui's statement made no mention of the duo who were formerly his close allies.
He explained that a law to prevent defections would protect voters from being betrayed by self-centred lawmakers.
"This law will also protect party members and voters whose support helped the lawmakers win," he said. - Mkini
