Aerial monitoring by the police Air Wing Unit (PGU) on interstate movement, which has been allowed since May 7, found motorists preferring to travel during the night.
PGU deputy commander (operations) SAC Noor Sham Md Jani said he believed that it was because of the fasting month with most of them preferring to start their journey after the breaking of fast.
He expected the number of vehicles to increase today as it is the last day for those stranded in various parts of the country, since MCO was enforced last March 18, to return home.
“Tomorrow (today) is the last day for interstate travel as we expect an increase in traffic volume,” he told Bernama after conducting an aerial survey of the major expressways last night.
Noor Sham said the PGU’s surveillance on the North South Expressway around Rawang and Tanjung Malim, Perak, and the Sungai Besi Expressway last night saw more vehicles entering Kuala Lumpur.
Through the Gerak Malaysia app, the police have set a four-day interstate movement schedule from May 7.
It started with those stranded in Kuala Lumpur on May 7, followed by interstate movement from Perak, Johor and Kelantan, on Friday; from Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Melaka and Pahang (yesterday) and Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu (today).
