Ismail Sabri refutes viral message on conditional MCO extension

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has refuted a viral message saying the government has decided to extend the conditional movement control order (MCO) after June 9.
“Yesterday, there was a viral (message) that we supposedly have set an extension for the conditional MCO with all sorts of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“That is fake news. Do not believe it,” Ismail Sabri (above) said in his daily press briefings on the Covid-19 situation in the country.
He urged the public to look for verified information on the SOPs from the National Security Council (NSC) website, where he said there are clear guidelines on the SOPs issued by the government.
He was responding to a question from a reporter on whether interstate travel will be allowed after June 9, which is when the conditional MCO is currently scheduled to end.
Ismail Sabri said the government will decide on whether there will be an extension for the conditional MCO later, along with all related SOPs, including on interstate travel.
“If we do allow it (interstate travel), then I will announce, but just wait for now,” he said.
