CORONAVIRUS | Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has ordered for the deportation of undocumented migrants to be hastened, to mitigate the risk of Covid-19 infection at immigration depots.
"We discussed the deportation of undocumented migrants who tested negative for Covid-19. I have ordered for this process to be hastened," he said in a statement this evening.
Muhyiddin said this while commenting on a video call he had with Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah regarding the current Covid-19 situation.
Over 380 undocumented migrants held at three immigration depots have tested positive for Covid-19.
The cluster was detected when the Health Ministry conducted tests after Myanmar nationals who were deported from Malaysia, had tested positive for the virus.
Those detained at the immigration depots had previously tested negative before being rounded up in raids during the pandemic.
