Reinforced MCO in Pudu for Covid-19 testing, quarantine of foreigners

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | The 'reinforced' movement control order (MCO) in parts of the Pudu area is to allow medical frontliners to conduct Covid-19 testing and quarantine of foreigners.
Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun, who came to visit the cordoned off area, said there were between 500 and 1,000 foreigners here, mostly Myanmar and Bangladesh nationals.
"I was told by the police that the reinforced MCO is for the foreigners.
"The (covid-19) test will be conducted on them as there are cases reported here.
"Locals are allowed to go out (of the blocked area), but they need to have permission from the police," he said.
Fong met with the media after a brief discussion with Dang Wangi police chief Mohd Fahmi Visuvanathan Abdullah.
Fong's service centre is one of approximately 800 premises in the area which has been cordoned off since yesterday evening.
Yesterday, the Health Ministry disclosed that 18 of the new cases in the Federal Territory were all from one source - in the vicinity of the Pudu market.
This cluster currently has 30 cases - all involving foreign nationals.
In other enhanced MCO areas including Selayang and Masjid India, authorities had conducted raids against hundreds of undocumented migrants.
Human rights group have criticised the government's strategy, warning that the targeting of undocumented migrants could instil fear and deter them from coming forward to get tested for Covi-19. - Mkini
