GE15 not far away if we win Sabah polls: PM

 

SABAH POLLS | Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that if the Perikatan Nasional (PN)-BN-PBS alliance was to win in the coming Sabah state election, a snap general election would not be far away.

This is the first time he has indicated he is in favour of a snap general election, as he previously only hinted that PN and its allies should work hard "as if the general election is going to be held tomorrow”.

“If we win in Sabah, we will hurry up and have the general election. I know what the media will write but let them speculate.

“But the Sabah state election is first and is the most important.

“The signal must be given by Sabahans that ‘we support PN, we want Muhyiddin to continue to be prime minister'. We want Malaysia to move forward and be successful and the only way to be successful is to be with me,” Muhyiddin said in a ceramah at Pintasan, Kota Belud today.

He was speaking to a crowd of over 250 people, most of whom wore dark blue shirts or vests emblazoned with the words "Perikatan Nasional".

Part of the crowd which turned up at the event spilled out onto the streets and the food stall next door.

Muhyiddin also shared how well the federal government had handled the Covid-19 pandemic, explaining the decisions for the movement control order and the standard operating procedure.

Muhyiddin cited the World Bank, which had said Malaysia was faring better than most other countries in the economic downturn caused by the pandemic.

“I have asked my finance minister, can we add more (financial aid)?... He said he will try to find out,” the prime minister said.

Putrajaya had previously announced a total of RM250 billion in economic stimulus packages amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, with a direct injection of RM45 billion.

The PN chairperson also told the crowd that it would be better for the state government to be aligned with the federal government.

This would make it easier for things such as bringing more investments into Sabah, he added.

As such, he urged the crowd to reject Warisan, which has consistently championed for local-based parties to lead Sabah instead.

The polling day for the Sabah state elections will be held on Sept 26. - Mkini
