Ahmad Maslan reminds PM that BN has more MPs than Bersatu

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan has advised Muhyiddin Yassin's advisers to remind the prime minister that BN has more MPs than Bersatu in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

Hence, based on the numbers, Ahmad said they should be given more senior positions and lead more important ministries.

"Politics is about numbers. But sometimes we forget where our position is. I hope they (Bersatu) don't forget.

"It's best for those who advise him (Muhyiddin) to remind him about the numbers.

"And that it's important in political cooperation. Those who have more voices should be given senior roles and more important ministries," he said.

For the record, BN currently has 42 parliamentary seats after 14 MPs from Umno left to join Bersatu, and after component parties from Sarawak and Sabah left the coalition following the 14th general election.

The number of BN MPs in Parliament was also reduced after Gerik MP Hasbullah Osman died of heart failure on Nov 16.

Bersatu, on the other hand, holds 31 seats, but Ahmad lamented that even with smaller numbers, it's Bersatu that has the prime minister position.

After joining forces to form the PN government in February, Umno and Bersatu have disagreed on several matters, notably on cabinet posts and Budget 2021.

BN secretary-general Annuar Musa reminded Umno that PAS will not work with the party without Bersatu, and pointed out the fact that Umno was defeated in the previous general election.

Following that, several Umno leaders such as Nur Jazlan Mohamed had labelled Annuar as a "Bersatu spokesperson". - Mkini
