KLUANG: Five 16-year-old boys have been arrested by the police today to assist in the investigation into a fight among students at a school hostel in the district.
Kluang District Police chief ACP Low Hang Seng said all of them were arrested at about 2.45pm after the CID received a report regarding the incident.
He said the mother of a student from the same school lodged the report two days ago (Thursday), claiming her son and another 14-year-old boy had been beaten by several senior students.
According to him, the mother claimed she found out her son was beaten after checking his mobile phone, where he had complained to his other friends about the beating.
"The incident occurred in the school's hostel, believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victims and the senior students.
"Both students who were beaten had received treatment and they were warned not to tell the school's administration about the matter," he said in a statement, today.
Low said urine tests for all the teenagers came back negative for drug abuse and they also did not have past criminal records.
All of them are currently being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, he said. –- BERNAMA
