Johor opposition reps receive threefold allocation boost

 


The allocation for opposition elected representatives will be boosted to RM150,000 from RM50,000 next year, as proof of the responsibility and concern of the Johor government to assist them help solve the problems of the people.

Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad said the allowance for the opposition leader was also increased to RM5,000 from RM3,000.

“To fete the constructive role of the opposition which elevates the dignity of the institution of elected representatives, I would like to increase the state assemblypersons allocation to RM150,000 from RM50,000.

"In addition, to give more recognition to the opposition leader, I propose that his allowance be increased to RM5,000 from RM3,000 and he is given an administrative assistant," he said.

He said this when presenting the Johor Budget 2021 at the third session of the 14th Johor state assembly at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Iskandar Puteri today.

The menteri besar said, through the Johor Governance Agenda, the Johor government remained committed towards a more efficient service delivery and governance with integrity and meeting the aspirations of the people.

‘’The Johor Governance Transformation can be implemented by empowering the government servants and modernisation initiatives.

‘’Firstly, the state government has set up the Johor Civil Service Academy to boost the competence and capacity of the civil servants.

'’Secondly, the state government will work with professional bodies to enable civil servants to have professional technical and non-technical qualifications such as engineering (Ir), Surveyor (Sr) and certified accountant (CA),’’ he said.

He said the Johor government would also implement time-based promotions based on excellence for the second time aimed at providing a better career pathway to officers in the implementing group in the civil service in the state.

Fourthly, the state government also expressed its thanks, appreciation and gratitude to Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for his consent in declaring the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council (MPPG) as a city effective Nov 22, 2020. - Bernama
