MOH: MySejahtera helped trace 9,167 Covid-19 cases

The MySejahtera smartphone application had helped the Health Ministry trace 9,167 people who eventually tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement today, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 1,561 cases were detected by users who used the application's self-assessment feature.

Another 7,606 cases were detected after the district health departments used MySejahtera's database to trace close contacts of those with Covid-19.

Noor Hisham's figures were valid up to yesterday. Assuming that the figures remain unchanged as of noon today, it would mean MySejahtera had helped detect 17.41 percent of the Covid-19 cases to date.

According to Noor Hisham, the number of cases which MySejahtera helps detect can range from 18.2 percent to 44.3 percent. He did not cite the date range for then these figures were recorded.

On average, 15 million "check-ins" are recorded by MySejahtera daily, said Noor Hisham.

These details are scrutinised by district health departments for contact tracing purposes.

Noor Hisham cited the Utama cluster as an example where MySejahtera's database had helped trace 457 possible close contacts who were required to undergo testing and 221 tested positive.

"Of the 236 Covid-19 cases involving the Utama cluster, 93 percent were traced from the MySejahtera application," said Noor Hisham.

He assured that the data collected by MySejahtera was secure and will only be used for contact tracing purposes.

He said any data collected will be archived after 30 days and destroyed after 90 days. - Mkini
