KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has fixed four days from Dec 14 for the continued hearing of Najib Razak’s 1MDB trial, which was interrupted by the ongoing conditional movement control order.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib said the date was given to parties today by High Court deputy registrar Farah Azura Mohd Saad through email.
“The trial from tomorrow until Thursday has been taken off the list due to the extended CMCO,” he told FMT in a text message.
On Oct 5, the trial was postponed to Oct 19 as the former prime minister was under Covid-19 quarantine after his trip from Sabah to campaign for Barisan Nasional candidates in the recent state election.
The government first introduced the CMCO for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya from Oct 14 to Oct 27.
It was extended for the second time until Nov 27 and now until Dec 6.
The defence will continue to cross-examine former 1MDB CEO Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman, the 10th prosecution witness, when the hearing resumes.
Najib faces 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering over alleged 1MDB funds amounting to RM2.28 billion deposited into his AmBank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.
The trial started before judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah on Aug 28 last year. - FMT
