Pollution shuts Rantau Panjang water plant again a week after reopening

The Rantau Pantang water treatment plant has been shut again after odour pollution has been detected at its inlets.

The Selangor Water Management Board (Luas) said it detected a solvent-like odour at 7pm today, with a threshold odour number (TON) reading of one.

“Following this, the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant has ceased operations at 7.10pm.

“Luas, Air Selangor and relevant parties are conducting investigations and immediate mitigation actions. Any developments will be informed from time-to-time,” it said in a Facebook post.

The same plant was among the four shut down last week after a factory is believed to have dumped chemical waste that eventually ended up in state’s rivers.

It had resumed operations on Nov 11 once the pollution has been cleared. - Mkini
