Two men were charged today for assaulting two bodyguards for fasting during Ramadan.
Forty-three-year-old Chung Chee Yang and his personal assistant Choo Hin Voon, also 43, both pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Bernama reported that they appeared before Klang magistrate P Sarulatha this morning.
According to the newswire, they were charged for committing the assault in front of a house located in Bukit Tinggi, Klang between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on April 13.
Chung was charged for five offences while Choo faces two charges.
For his first charge, Chung was accused of having committed criminal intimidation by directing a pistol towards his personal bodyguard Mohd Azminizam Zulkepli, 44.
He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, where the maximum sentence is seven years jail or an unstipulated fine or both.
For his second and third charges, Chung was accused of having conspired with Choo by instructing the latter to purposely inflict injury on both Azminizam and another one of his personal bodyguards, Ahmad Shamsuri Zailani, 27.
He was charged under Section 109 of the Penal Code for these two charges. This section was read together with Section 324 of the Penal Code and carries a maximum sentence of 10 years jail or an unstipulated fine or caning or any two of the mentioned sentences.
For his fourth charge, Chung was accused of having made statements that offended the victim’s religious beliefs. He was charged under Section 298 of the Penal Code which carries a one-year jail sentence or an RM2,000 fine or both.
In his final charge, Chung was accused of purposely inflicting injury on Aziminizam. He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a one-year jail sentence or an unstipulated fine or both.
After arresting Chung and raiding his residence, the police found firearms, 100kg of gold bars and 12,500 pieces of US$100 notes.
Preliminary investigations found him to be involved in “illegal money-lending and gambling activities”.
Chung is presently being investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
Personal assistant also charged
Chung’s personal assistant Choo was also charged today for assaulting his employer's bodyguards.
For both the charges, Choo was accused of causing injury to Azminizam and Shamsuri.
He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 10-year jail sentence or an unstipulated fine or caning or any two of the mentioned sentences.
Magistrate Sarulatha allowed Chung RM50,000 bail while Choo was allowed RM20,000 bail, each with one surety.
Both were required to surrender their passports to the court and report to a police station once a month.
The next case mention was set for June 23.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Ashyraf Ashy’ari Kamaruzaman.
Chung was represented by his lawyer Abdul Hakeem Aiman while Choo was represented by Loi Yap Loong. - Mkini
