PEKAN: A jobless youth who tried to sneak out from a housing area placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) near here yesterday paid a "heavy price" for his action.
The 18-year-old from Taman Mentiga Jaya, who climbed over a barrier and barbed wire fence setup by the authorities, was issued a RM3,000 compound.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Razli Mohd Yusof said the authorities who were on duty at the main entrance into Taman Mentiga Jaya were alerted to the incident at about 9.40pm.
"Policemen went to inspect the area after receiving information that a youth was spotted climbing the barrier and fence at Taman Mentiga Jaya before walking towards Dato Shahbandar, Pekan. The youth lives at Taman Mentiga Jaya which is currently placed under EMCO.
"He is not allowed to leave the housing area and is only allowed to use the main entrance with police approval. The youth was issued a RM3,000 compound," he said, adding the youth was unemployed and was currently helping his mother manage her online business.
