Teratai rep resigns from DAP, now a pro-Harapan indie

 

Teratai assemblyperson Bryan Lai Wai Chong has announced his decision to resign from DAP to become a pro-Pakatan Harapan independent lawmaker.

This comes after he was accused of engaging in extramarital affairs.

In a statement this afternoon, Lai said he did not want to further implicate DAP in a scandal.

“I don’t want my beloved party’s name to be affected because of my personal problems.

“After careful consideration, I decided today to leave DAP to become a pro-DAP and pro-Pakatan Harapan independent assemblyperson to serve my constituency,” he said.

He said he chose to quit the party entirely after DAP sustained continuous “attacks” in relation to his alleged infidelity even after he resigned from his post as Selangor DAP organising secretary last week.

“Once again, I would like to apologise to DAP for the harm this has caused the party,” he said.

Lai’s resignation does not affect the balance of power in the Selangor government, where Harapan has a supermajority. - Mkini
