Pakatan Harapan Youth has demanded that the US stop selling arms to Israel, which the movement described as a criminal state.
The demand was made in a petition that was handed to the US Embassy today, wherein Harapan Youth also urged the US to review its diplomatic relations with Israel.
Harapan Youth said Israel had clearly committed various war crimes in recent years which has resulted in the deaths of innocent Palestinians.
“We urge that the US government, especially President Joe Biden, prove to the Americans and the world his leadership and that he is indeed a firm believer and defender of human rights and that all lives matter,” said the movement.
Israel receives approximately US$3.8 billion (RM15.75 billion) in funding from the US.
US legislators are currently trying to ensure that the funding will not be used in supporting or enabling human rights abuses.
Democratic senator Bernie Sander had also introduced a resolution to block a US$735 million arms deal with Israel.
These measures were in response to recent Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza strip, in retaliation against rocket attacks by Hamas.
Critics have pointed out that the death toll inflicted by Israel - around 200 - was disproportionate to that dealt by Hamas.
An Egyptian-brokered ceasefire was put in place yesterday after 11 days of fighting.
Malaysia does not recognise Israel's right to exist and hence the two countries do not have any diplomatic relations. - Mkini
