DAP today promised that it will not back any no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin should he convene an emergency parliamentary meeting.
In a statement today, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said DAP's 42 MPs only want to discuss Covid-19 prevention measures, the national vaccination programme and related matters only.
"The Johor ruler has proposed a meeting of all Johor MPs, state assemblypersons, and the Johor state government to meet and discuss together over Covid-19 prevention measures, as an alternative to the suspension of Parliament.
"This whole-of-government or whole-of-people approach by the Johor Sultan is better than the current Perikatan Nasional government's fumbling performance of stumbling from one policy mistake and SOP U-turn to the next," Lim said.
He said the dire Covid-19 situation - where Malaysia has the highest per capita Covid-19 cases in Asean, coupled with a slow vaccination rollout - warranted an emergency meeting of the Parliament.
"Such a shameful performance should wake up the slumbering PN administration that they must adopt not just a whole-of-government approach but also a whole-of-people approach to prevail in the desperate battle against Covid-19.
"PN must also give a full explanation why the Covid-19 crisis has become so appalling despite RM60 billion in direct funding to battle Covid-19.
"In 2020, RM38 billion was allocated for the Covid-19 fund, RM17 billion in 2021, and another RM5 billion appropriated from the National Trust Fund (Kwan)," Lim added.
Muhyiddin's administration had sought the proclamation of the state of emergency in January which, among others, suspended Parliament while initially allowing schools and most businesses to remain open.
However, four months into emergency, the spread of Covid-19 got worse, with record numbers of deaths daily and patients requiring intensive care. - Mkini
