PETALING JAYA: A former Sabah Umno chief and federal minister has urged politicians to focus on the rakyat’s problems instead of the next general election.
In a Facebook post, Salleh Said Keruak, the former communications and multimedia minister said the country’s main mission remains defeating Covid-19 and the issues related to it which involved health, financial and political matters.
“So we should be cautious when talking about GE15 (the next general election), be it in terms of political cooperation or seat allocations.
“It is important that we avoid negative perceptions. The people need us to prioritise and resolve their problems. Now is the time to work and the people will evaluate us accordingly.”
Avoid Melaka-style scramble
Earlier today, Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid urged all parties to respect the Memorandum of Understanding achieved by the government and Pakatan Harapan.
He said this was to avoid a Melaka-like “scramble” following speculation that some Barisan Nasional and Bersatu assemblymen may withdraw their support for chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali.
Mahdzir, in a statement, reminded all parties to heed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s call for political stability so that the government can focus on battling Covid-19 and ensuring the country’s economic recovery. - FMT
