KOTA KINABALU: A foreigner was sentenced to a year in jail after being found guilty by the Lahad Datu magistrates’ court for the illegal possession of a Malaysian identity card and using it to obtain two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The woman, who was not identified, was charged under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007) for deliberately having another person’s identity card and falsely using it as her own on two occasions.
A statement issued by the Sabah National Registration Department (JPN) said the first offence was for the possession of the MyKad belonging to one Marujum Pengiran.
She was found guilty of the charge as well as on the two separate counts of using the document to obtain the first and second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in Lahad Datu on Aug 17 and Sept 7, respectively.
Magistrate Ryan Sagirann Rayner Jr sentenced her to one year in jail on each of the three charges, but ordered that her time be served concurrently.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Naser Mohd Nadzeri and Nurul Fariza Abdullah while the accused was represented by lawyer Muhammad Abdul Karim. - FMT
