King lifts emergency in Sarawak, paves way for state election

Kim Quek: Why is GPS so scared of youths? Answer - because youths are better informed, being more internet savvy, and not so easily bribed with election goodies and deceived by state propaganda.
Though unjustly deprived of their voting rights, they can still exert their powerful influence on the outcome of the coming Sarawak election by actively involved in election campaigning, starting by enlightening and convincing their parents, relatives and friends as to which party will bring a better future for Sarawak.
They should be unrelenting in exposing how the incumbent ruling elite have been robbing and impoverishing the state with high corruption all these years, while pointing out how the alternative party with its clean record could better utilise the state’s resources to eradicate poverty, improve services and upgrade the economy.
The youths will become the leaders of tomorrow, and the time to start on the course to future leadership for a better tomorrow is now.
Justice: Denying the youths of their democratic voting rights should rightfully anger the Sarawakian youths.
The Sarawakian youths should therefore rise up and go all out to campaign against GPS to teach the ruling party and any future state government in Sarawak to respect the youths and their rights to participate in the democratic process.
They can start campaigning informally by convincing their immediate family members, grandparents, parents and older siblings not to vote GPS, then move on to their relatives, for example, uncles, aunties and cousins, and then to neighbours and friends.
Apart from that, the youths can also volunteer themselves to work or campaign for the opposition parties, for example, distributing, transporting and putting up campaign materials.
Sarawak needs a new and fresh set of open-minded leaders with creative and innovative ideas, and who can truly think outside the box.
In recent years, Sarawak's economic growth has clearly stagnated, with timber gone, state lands almost fully alienated to cronies and Sarawak's oil and gas under Petronas control. Thus, Sarawak's sources of income are now very limited.
Worse, the wealth generated from Sarawak's natural resources is only concentrated in the hands of a few elites and their cronies. So Sarawak's only hope now is with its youths.
For the state election, to hold it at this time of the Covid-19 pandemic when Sarawak's infection cases and death rate are continuously among the highest in Malaysia is completely reckless, irresponsible and 'suicidal'.
Just talk to the doctors and nurses in the hospitals in Sarawak, they will tell you they do not have sufficient beds and even facilities or equipment in the ICUs. Politics should not be at the expense of people’s life.
BobbyO: Why the hurry? Why not wait for the Covid figures to go down before we have another state election?
Did not the deputy Agong earlier reject the lifting of the emergency for Sarawak to hold the election? Why now a change of decision?
What is GPS fearful of? Is it possible that by using Covid, GPS can easily control the canvassing of votes? It would put GPS in a better position to win.
To the Sarawakians, this is a wake-up call. Reject leaders who are in league with a failed coalition and those who are in league with a religious party that is slowly but surely putting their religious fingerprint on a lot of decisions.
They should elect leaders who will prioritise the future of their own people over their own personal interests.
Specialist Opening Batsman: Malaysia would have had a PM from Sabah and Sarawak by now if the 18 lawmakers from GPS in Sarawak had thrown their support behind Warisan and Pakatan Harapan to lead a new coalition government after the illegitimate Muhyiddin Yassin government collapsed in August.
It's long overdue for this syndicate to be condemned to the political wilderness. Friends from Sarawak, together we can achieve a watershed result in the coming state poll.
VioletKite5133: Unfortunately, most Sarawakians will still vote for GPS, especially those in the rural areas and the older generation. That's the ugly reality.
Kuniyo: Selfish boomer politicians are pushing for election this year because they are not confident that they can get support from young people as Undi18 will only take effect next year.
Anonymous_3f4b: @Kuniyo, how sure of you that Undi18 votes will go to the opposition? It might very well be for the status quo. After all, Sarawak is the epitome of multiracial and multi-religious harmony and acceptance.

This election will bring a surge of Covid. But then again, what are a few more thousands of deaths if the present regime can stay in power for much longer.
Headhunter: If GPS stopped the youths from voting, they will exact their vengeance in the coming federal election, which I suspect will be early next year.
And why is the emergency status removed for Sarawak, which continually registered the most deaths and the infected in Malaysia?
