No MCA leader charged with corruption, reminds Wee

MCA president Wee Ka Siong wants voters to stop associating the party with alleged corrupt practices in BN, reminding them that no MCA leader had been charged in court with such offences after its fall in the 2018 general election.

The transport minister urged the rakyat to only evaluate MCA on its performance.

"Was there any MCA leader charged in court in 2018 (after the general election)?

"Assess MCA’s performance. Were its leaders ever convicted? I think you can come up with your own answer when it’s compared with other political parties, so be fair.

"When you say BN leaders are corrupt, then the guilty party has to face the music," he was quoted as saying by The Malaysian Insight.

BN, an Umno-led coalition that MCA is a part of, has been under heavy criticism after a slew of its leaders were charged in court with alleged corruption-related offences following BN's collapse in the 14th general election.

Wee said that he, however, can respect the Chinese voters' decision if they do not want to vote for MCA because of its involvement with corrupt leaders.

"Everyone has their own opinions. You can have 30 reasons why you do not want to support a party, and I respect that."

He added that BN leaders implicated in corruption charges, however, had chosen to clear their names through the court process instead of interfering with the judiciary.

This was unlike Pakatan Harapan which chose to drop several cases and ignored the law, Wee reportedly said. - Mkini
