Covid-19 (May 1): 1,503 new cases, a 12-month low

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 1,503 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday - a 12-month low. It was the lowest number of new cases since April 12 last year.

Active cases currently stood at 41,168, down 57.4 percent compared to 14 days ago. The R-number has also steadily decreased and stood at 0.61 as of April 30.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Malacca (120)
Penang (97)
Perak (96)
Johor (86)
Kedah (62)
Negeri Sembilan (54)
Sarawak (51)
Pahang (39)
Terengganu (20)
Sabah (14)
Putrajaya (11)

Another three deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 7.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 17.9, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,550 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,071 deaths per 1 million population, and the fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

Two new deaths were reported in Selangor and one in Perak.

There are 1,074 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 69 are in intensive care.

There were 352 new admissions of Covid-19 patients yesterday - the lowest in 77 weeks.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (122) followed by Johor (72) and Sabah (46). - Mkini
