The Tambun PKR division has advised Perak opposition leader, DAP's Abdul Aziz Bari, to drop his ambitions of being fielded as Pakatan Harapan's candidate for Tambun in the 15th general election.
Tambun PKR women's wing chief Norheizan Sofea Mustafa said her division would insist on its rights to field a candidate "belonging" to PKR.
"PKR has been fielding candidates for Tambun since 2008. In 2018, we ceded that right to Bersatu in 2018 when they were part of Harapan.
"Now that they are not, that right should be returned to PKR," she told Malaysiakini.
Aziz told Malaysiakini in a recent interview that he was volunteering to be Harapan's candidate for Tambun to take on the incumbent Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Tambun was a traditional Umno stronghold until Ahmad Faizal won the seat in 2018, securing 44.5 percent of the votes cast in a three-cornered contest.
Currently, Aziz is the Tambun Harapan secretariat joint-chief, while Norheizan is the secretary.
Norheizan said Tambun PKR would not accept Aziz because the latter has a record of switching parties.
"After failing to be elected as the MP for Sabak Bernam in 2013, he left PKR to join DAP. PKR members view him negatively for this.
"As a senior leader in Perak, (Aziz) should emulate other DAP leaders such as Liew Chin Tong by contesting more challenging seats," she said. - Mkini
