Sec-gen hints at more govt MPs joining PBM

PBM secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad says further announcements will be made in due course.

PETALING JAYA: After Zuraida Kamaruddin’s decision to leave Bersatu for Parti Bangsa Malaysia, PBM’s secretary-general has hinted that more government MPs could be joining the newly formed party.

“There are other MPs who also support PBM. They are from the government (bloc),” Nor Hizwan Ahmad told FMT, adding that further announcements will be made in due course.

Meanwhile, PBM president Larry Sng reiterated that his party is backing Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration, thus ensuring Ismail continued to command the majority support of MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.

“We are supporting Ismail’s government,” he told FMT.

The government has a slim majority in the 222-seat Parliament, with 116 MPs from Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), PBM and several independents forming the government bloc.

PBM currently has two MPs – Sng (Julau) and Steven Choong (Tebrau). Zuraida will become its third MP. All were previously with PKR.

Yesterday, Zuraida announced that she was quitting Bersatu for PBM and would meet Ismail soon to discuss her resignation from the Cabinet.

The Ampang MP said she decided to join PBM as she believed in the party’s struggles and was “attached” to its core principles. - FMT
