PM spends close to an hour at Istana Negara

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim spent around 50 minutes at Istana Negara this morning.

According to Bernama, Anwar arrived at 8.22am through Gate 1 and left around 9.15am.

Anwar was widely believed to have been granted an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah on the appointment of the cabinet.

The prime minister is also scheduled for an audience with Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah around 10am at Istana Kinta, Ipoh.

Anwar has a packed schedule in the Perak capital today culminating in a kenduri rakyat (feast for the people) at the Muhammad Al-Fateh mosque in Taman Jati, Ipoh after Friday prayers.

This will mark Anwar's first appearance in the Tambun constituency - which he represents - after the Nov 19 general election.

Last night, Anwar told supporters that the cabinet list was "almost settled" and he will make an announcement within "two or three days".

Anwar, who leads a hodgepodge government of former rivals, is expected to face challenges in balancing between satisfying the demands of his new allies and coming up with a convincing cabinet. - Mkini
