Cops probing Hadi for sedition over 3R remarks against DAP

Police have launched an investigation against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for allegedly touching on the 3R (religion, race, and royalty) issues.

In a statement this morning, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director G Suresh Kumar said Hadi (above) is being probed over his claims against DAP, alleging that the party intends to retain the meaning of Islam in the Federal Constitution based on the British colonialists’ interpretation, which upholds liberalism and freedoms espoused by western countries.

Suresh said the Marang MP’s remarks were believed to have been made via a Facebook post last Saturday (July 8).

“The investigation is being carried out under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“The probe is still ongoing and the public is advised not to make any speculation that could interfere with the investigation process,” he said, adding that action will be taken against any quarters that threaten public order and national security.

Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, upon conviction.

This came after Hadi alleged that DAP has a “Chinese agenda” and is “out to continue the eradication of the Malay and bumiputera supremacy set in place by British colonisers”.

He also claimed that DAP is using spokespersons among the Malay community “who have forgotten their roots” to achieve its agenda.

The Islamist party leader also claimed that DAP had previously expressed discontentment over the ban on alcohol on Muslims in Kelantan.

Hadi had slammed DAP for opposing the enforcement of laws governing aurat for Muslims and modesty laws for non-Muslims in PAS-led states and had accused the party of “upholding western cultures which have no relation to the Chinese or Indians”.

Probe against Guan Eng

Last night, Suresh confirmed that Bukit Aman had initiated an investigation against DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng for allegedly touching on 3R issues.

Earlier yesterday, Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari instructed its youth machinery to lodge police reports nationwide in protest against Lim for saying PN will destroy Buddhist or Chinese temples in Penang.

In response, Lim challenged Fadhli to personally lodge a police report against him.

The former finance minister has repeatedly denied making the claim, clarifying that his speech was made in reference to a case of a Hindu temple in Kedah being demolished in July 2020.

China Press has also issued a clarification saying that MalaysiaNow incorrectly translated Lim’s quotes.

“The translation of the website was incorrect; neither the headline nor the news content mentioned Buddhist temples or Chinese temples,” the article said.

The article stated that the original publication cited Lim as saying that the “Green Wave” would result in temples of other races being destroyed, but that as long as Penang remained (out of PN's hands), freedom of religion would be upheld.

The article also included a “verbatim” transcript, in which Lim reportedly said in the “Green Wave”, temples found to be an “eyesore” - especially Hindu’s - might get torn down. - Mkini
