Former senator and newsreader Ras Adiba Radzi was officially accepted to Bersatu last night.
According to Berita Harian, her membership certificate was handed to her by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
“I have thought for several weeks about joining Bersatu after receiving many overtures to do so.
“After considering the political environment today, as a Negeri Sembilan-born, (I have decided) to fully support Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional (PN),” she said.
Ras Adiba (above) said she was an Umno member until the end of last year.
In May 2020, Ras Adiba was appointed as a member of the Dewan Negara by the Muhyiddin administration to represent disabled persons.
Six months later, Ras Adiba was appointed chairperson of government news agency Bernama.
Not contesting state polls
Ras Adiba, 54, said she will be joining PN’s campaign for the Negeri Sembilan legislative assembly election.
However, she said she does not aim to be a candidate.
“I didn’t join Bersatu with the purpose of becoming a candidate. I want to join the PN struggle and help the people.
“I will give 500 percent support to my friends in Bersatu to ensure PN can form the state government,” she said.
Apart from Ras Adiba, Muhyiddin also handed out membership certificates to former Putrajaya Umno division deputy chief Faisal Ismail Aziz, former Negeri Sembilan PKR women’s wing chief Azlimah Zamli, and former Jelebu PKR division chief Mazmi Ahmad Yusof.
The event was attended by PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, Negeri Sembilan PN chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Arau MP Shahidan Kassim, and Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah. - Mkini
