Gerakan won't object to MCA, MIC joining PN but…

Gerakan president Dominic Lau said he has no objections to Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor inviting MCA and MIC to join the coalition.

“Gerakan’s position is that anyone who agrees with PN’s ideals… caring, integrity, stability - we can accept them,” he told Malaysiakini when contacted yesterday.

Lau added that PN’s doors are open to any individuals or political parties that subscribe to the coalition’s ideals.

He pointed out that Gerakan was also a former BN component party.

“If they (MCA and MIC) intend to join, it also means that they do not agree with Pakatan Harapan and BN.

“After all, our party Gerakan had also quit BN, so if they decide to leave BN and subscribe to PN’s ideals, I think we can accept that,” Lau said.

However, he emphasised that Sanuni was merely expressing his personal opinion, adding that any major decision would have to be discussed beforehand.

“This is his (Sanusi’s) statement and does not represent PN. Only decisions made by the PN supreme council represent the coalition.

“Bersatu can have its own opinion, PAS can have its own opinion, and Gerakan too can have its own views.

“As for who can join PN, that must be decided by the supreme council. Only that will be PN’s (official) stance,” Lau said.

On Thursday, after MCA and MIC announced their decision to sit out of the coming six state elections, Sanusi said the two parties are being treated unfairly and invited them to join PN instead.

However, MCA has categorically rejected Sanusi’s proposal. - Mkini
