Socso denies dress code at its Penang office

PETALING JAYA: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) says it has not issued any order to bar visitors from entering its Penang office because of their dressing.

It was responding to an incident on Wednesday when a woman was stopped from entering its office in Jalan Burmah here by a Rela member for “indecent dressing.”

An internal investigation found that the Rela member on duty had acted beyond the organisation’s security control procedure, Socso said in a statement yesterday.

“Socso takes seriously the issue of unexpected action by a security guard at the Penang office who prevented a customer from entering because of her dressing.

“An internal investigation conducted by Socso management found no instructions were issued by the management or the office manager to the Rela member to prevent customers from entering the premises.

“Socso would like to emphasise that what happened was beyond the knowledge of its management.

“The individual has since been suspended with effect from June 29 until the investigation is completed,” it added. - Star
