SELAYANG: Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari has cast his vote at SJK (C) Selayang Baru here.
Wearing a red Selangor jersey, the Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chief was in a jovial mood when met by the media.
“I’m all right,” he smiled. “It’s time to vote.”
Amirudin, who arrived with his wife, Masdiana Muhamad, on a motorcycle at 8.24am, cast his vote five minutes later.
The PKR vice-president, who is looking to retain his Sungai Tua seat, is up against Perikatan Nasional’s Hanif Jamaluddin and independent candidate G Suman.
Last month, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim said Amirudin will remain Selangor menteri besar if the coalition retains the state in today’s election.
Anwar, who is also the prime minister, said this is in order to maintain the state’s strong track record in attracting investments under Amirudin.
Speaking to reporters after he cast his vote, Amirudin urged all Selangor voters to head to the polling centres as soon as possible.
“Vote early as the weather might be a concern later in the day,” he said.
“Take this opportunity that you have to choose the state administration for the next five years.”
If possible, he said, voters should head to the voting centres on motorcycles to avoid traffic jams.
Tok Mat casts ballot in Rantau
Meanwhile, in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan cast his ballot for the Rantau seat.
Mohamad, commonly known as Tok Mat, arrived at the voting centre at SJK (C) Chung Hua at 8.30am, accompanied by his wife, Raja Salbiah Tengku Nujumudin.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman, who is seeking to defend the seat he has held since 2004, is up against PN’s Rozmal Malakan in a straight fight. - FMT
