Pelangai polls: BN candidate confident of gaining non-Malay support

BN candidate Amizar Abu Adam is confident of garnering the support of non-Malay voters in the Pelangai by-election on Oct 7.

According to him, Chinese and Indian voters he met on the campaign trail thus far have voiced their full backing for BN.

“(I can feel the) acceptance in Indian areas, and they welcome us.

“The Chinese are excited to have us (BN) and have pledged 100 percent support for the BN candidate,” Amizar (above) said when met at the campaign trail in Bentong, Pahang today.

The by-election for the Pelangai state seat is being held following the death of its incumbent Johari Harun in a plane crash in Elmina, Shah Alam, Selangor on Aug 17.

Johari won the seat with a 4,048-vote majority in the last general election, defeating candidates from Perikatan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan, and Pejuang.

This coming by-election will witness a three-way clash between Amizar, PN’s Kasim Samat, and independent Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli.

Amizar concurred with Pahang Umno chairperson Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail’s remark that BN machinery should always be on alert.

“Come election time, we don’t know what kind of ‘attacks’ will happen, so the machinery must be ready to face them, round the clock,” he said, adding that he will unveil his election manifesto soon. - Mkini
